    About Grand Targhee, Wyoming

If you’re in search of a laid-back ski vacation with virtually guaranteed powder, then Grand Targhee should be top-of-mind. Grand Targhee is located in the heart of the Teton Mountains, and experiences a whopping 500 inches of legendary powder a year. Grand Targhee consistently ranks as one of North America’s top resorts for powder hounds; in fact SKI magazine once called it "a place that dumps.”

The resort is just 12 miles from Driggs, Idaho, and a quick 90 minutes from Jackson Hole airport or Idaho Falls airport, making it an incredibly accessible ski vacation. Those on a budget looking for uncompromising on- and off-mountain quality will be pleasantly surprised on a Grand Targhee ski vacation. While the resort still retains its cool, blasé vibe, Grand Targhee has experienced some recent upgrades, including a new road and new detachable quad chairlift, which accesses an additional 500 skiable acres on Peak Mountain and brings Targhee’s total to 2,602 acres.

    Grand Targhee

Skiing is good. Staff generally unfriendly

In general the skiing is quite good here. The mountain is not big on challenge but there is plenty of variety. Grand Targhee tends to get a lot of snow and we benefitted from this with great snow conditions. The disappointing aspect for us was the general level of unfriendliness and lack of helpfulness of the staff. This was quite pervasive from the restaurants and cafes to the front office to the lift workers. We are long time avid skiers and have skied at over 20 resorts (many multiple times) and this was quite surprising to me as it is something that we have never come across before. It seems that ski hills generally seem to attract friendly and happy people and this has always been our experience. I wouldn't say that the people were outright rude, more just indifferent. Each day I would happily greet the lift operators as we approached. Although I did get some engaged responses, mostly people would look down and away, stare blankly through us, or grunt something noncommittal. If I didn't' initiate a greeting it was rare that they would say anything at all. There was more than one occasion in the restaurants where we would receive only a portion of our order. In this situation, when reminding there staff of the missing orders, they would bring them but acted a bit annoyed at having to do so and there was certainly never anything resembling an apology. We don't tend to go in for luxury or opulence so we are used to a basic level of service but this was something unique. The general level of indifference was so pervasive that I have to think that this is a "top down" culture emanating from the resort administration. I simply don't find it plausible that all available employees from this area of the country are this way.

    Family ski trip

Perfect mountain for getting my 11 year old to fall in love with powder skiing.. Had knee high to thigh high powder all 3 days.. Although it is 70% intermediate, there is plenty of pitch and trees .. The only downside is stays so foggy you don't get to see how beautiful the mountain and views are.. Also we stayed at the mountain lodge which was comfortable but not a lot of choices for dinners. But all in all a great relaxing family place

I fell in love with Grand Targhee. It is a very unpretentious resort, which just happens to have great skiing/riding and gets an incredible amount of snow.

The base area is quite small. There are a few lodges, each with clean, moderate lodging. There are a couple of excellent restaurants. The Branding Iron offers a wide variety of very tasty dinner options. There is one spa in the resort, it has two treatment rooms.

What Grand Targhee is mostly about is skiing. I was astounded when I realized that there are really only three lifts. The amount of terrain that they access, however, is mind boggling. Ride up the Dreamcatcher lift, traverse to the right and you will have amazing views of the other side of the Tetons. Grand Targhee is still somewhat of a "hidden gem" because it's nearest competition - Jackson Hole - is much more famous. You will never see a lift line at Grand Targhee. What you will see is a really fun ski area, with every kind of terrain you can imagine. You will also see lots of snow.

Come on! 500 inches of powder a year with amazing views of the Tetons? That's right, and I often tell folks skiing in Jackson Hole to spend a night or two staying and skiing at the Grand Targhee ski resort. Located on the west side of the Grand Tetons and just 42 miles from Jackson, it's worth the trip over. Grand Targhee is in the top four resorts in North America for the amount of snow they receive annually. It is well worth the trip over to check it out. Activities are not limited to skiing either. They have snowshoeing, catskiing adventures, sleigh ride dinners and dog sled tours as well Call or email me today for more details on skiing at Grand Targhee!
